GaugeMate is a free rain gauge app for Australian homes, properties and farms, run by GaugeMate (“we”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
- Your name and mobile number, so you can sign in with a text message code and get your records back on a new phone.
- Your rain records: readings, notes, property, town and gauge names, and the change history that lets you undo mistakes.
- Who you share with: the Mates you invite, and what they can do on each shared gauge.
- Messages you send us through Help or Contact us, with the reply details you give and the type of phone you’re using.
We don’t collect your location, contacts or photos, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
How we use it
Only to run GaugeMate: signing you in, saving and backing up your records, showing shared gauges to the Mates you chose, and answering your messages. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who can see it
- Your Mates see your name and the readings on the gauges you shared with them, and nothing else. Your mobile number is never shown to them.
- Google Firebase provides our sign-in, text messages, database, backups and hosting. Your information is stored on their secure servers, which may be outside Australia.
- We may share information if the law requires it.
Keeping it safe
Access is protected by the database’s own security rules, so each person can only reach their own records and the gauges shared with them. Records are backed up daily, and a nightly copy is kept separately.
Your choices
- See, download (Excel or PDF) or correct your records in the app at any time.
- Stop sharing a gauge, or leave one shared with you, at any time.
- Ask us to delete your account and records through Contact us. Backups are cleared within 90 days.
Questions or complaints
